Coconut Milk For Shiny Smooth Hair

Coconut milk is a great nourishing treatment for all hair types. This is a pre-poo treatment that will strengthen your hair to promote hair growth by reducing shedding and breakage and also add shine and softness. Coconut milk carries protein, iron, potassium and essential fats that will increasingly provide healthier hair with each usage.

coconut milkFind 100% natural coconut milk or cream without additives. I use Trader Joe’s Organic Coconut milk but you can use any brand that has coconut milk as the only ingredient. If you prefer to use a fresh whole coconut you will need to crack it open, scoop out the coconut meat and use a food cloth strainer, known as a cheese cloth, to squeeze out the milk into a bowl. This process takes longer and more work but it’s an option for 100% natural coconut  milk.

You can do this treatment a few times a week or as often as you wash your hair for faster results or you can try it as little as once a month.

For general wash days, I don’t use regular shampoo when I’m naturally curly because it can strip away natural oils that I need and most likely has silicones I avoid. I’m using the DevaCurl Decadence No-Poo Cleanse and Decadence One Condition and deep condition with Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning Mask (owned by a woman of color :D). Both products have no parabens, silicones, sulfates or phthalates.

For my leave-in, I use coconut oil to seal in the moisture and SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Reparative Leave-In Conditioner (also black-owned).

No matter which way you wear you hair, try the coconut milk treatment for shiny and stronger hair.
